I am excited to reveal the e-design for this adorable coastal themed nursery! There is something different about designing a nursery versus any other residential space. Perhaps it is the whimsical themes a nursery can have, or perhaps because you doesn't have to be afraid of using too much color. Basically, a nursery design doesn't have to take itself too seriously and that makes for one fun project!
My client Megan was initially considering a safari themed nursery, but she kept gushing over the cutest sea themed activity floor mat. I decided to take a risk and forgo the safari theme and surprise her with a coastal, sea themed design! Believe it or not, this entire nursery design was inspired by this activity floor mat!

I love the various blue colors and the adorable sea animals. I knew Megan wanted a light and airy feel to the room, with light colored furniture and light gray colored walls. Various shades of blue and turquoise would really pop with white and gray as the backdrop. Below is the mood board I created for the design.
As you can see, this adorable coastal nursery is a great departure from the ever popular nautical themed nursery- there isn't an anchor in sight! The colorful striped rug will be the focal point of the entire room and all the other decor relates back to the rug colors. Fun artwork brings personality into the room and adds that touch of whimsy I was referring to earlier. Here is the final design board.
I just know that this space will be a great calming place for Megan and the new baby, as well as a wonderful room for a little boy to grow up in. I can't wait to see pictures of the finished product and I will be sure to share them here on the blog!
