One of my latest e-design projects was to create a playroom design! Given that I'm expecting my first kid, this project was particularly exciting. As I discovered during my first nursery e-design project, designing kids' spaces is a blast (and I think it turned out amazing if I do say so myself - and thank you Houzz.com community for agreeing with me)! Today I'm going to show you the e-design I presented to my client Nicole. She chose a vintage surf theme, which was extra fun for me as I grew up in Southern California. I think the final design will be fantastic!
During our initial consultation, my client Nicole explained to me her vision for the playroom. The space was to function initially as a playroom, but later be able to morph into a big boy room for her toddler. Basically, I needed to ensure that the design wouldn't be too babyish for a growing little boy! Nicole had the basic playroom furniture already, such as a play table and toy storage. My job was to compile a design full of themed decor to complete the room. Challenge accepted!
The room had been painted a nice, deep grey color so I knew that bright colors would pop wonderfully against the dark walls. Nicole requested a color scheme of grey, orange, turquoise and a little accent pink. Orange and grey always pair nicely together so I knew these colors would work well. Nicole's other playroom requests were simple: some type of play tent, area rug, art, shelving, magnetic chalkboard, interactive kid's mirror, and last but not least, a personalized surf board sign.
Here is the final mood board I created for the vintage surf themed playroom!
Can you believe that vintage VW bus play tent I found?! In my opinion, it makes the whole design. Note that I chose a simple, striped grey rug to allow for the colorful decor to take center stage. The personalized surfboard sign and gallery wall will be the focal point of the room. In addition to providing most of the color inspiration for the rest of the room decor, I made sure the gallery wall included some of those dark grey shades to tie into the wall color.
I can't wait until the entire vintage surf playroom comes together! I will share the photos of the finished room here on the blog!
