Shibori Dye Printed Home Decor - Shop The Trend

Design InspirationSarice GutmanComment

Shibori, a textile trend that has exploded this year, is popping up all over the place.  The unique designs of shibori textiles blend cohesively in both eclectic and traditional interior spaces.  Shibori home decor items are art pieces in themselves and add such aesthetic interest to a space.

Shibori is a Japanese textile dyeing technique that dates back to the 8th century.  Over time, the textile fabrics and dyes used have expanded tremendously.  Before dyeing, the cloth is usually manipulated three dimensionally  using numerous folding, crumpling, stitching, plaiting, plucking, or twisting techniques.  Many color dyes can be utilized, but indigo dye is very prevalent.  To learn more about the art of Shibori click here and here.

Textile Designer Rebecca Atwood is an American Textile Designer who designs gorgeous dyed fabrics, including shibori.  Her process of hand dyeing is fascinating and proof that the ancient tradition of shibori is alive and well in modern textiles.  While many retailers mass produce their shibori fabrics, I really appreciate the dedication Rebecca has for the shibori technique.  You can read more abut her process here and shop her pillows and fabrics here.

As you can see from the following photos, shibori has been utilized in many interior spaces.  I just love how shibori prints mesh so well with other patterns and styles.  Shibori prints show up in everything from wallpaper to window treatments.  Its a shibori party!

I cannot get over these shibori window treatments.  So gorgeous! Blackband Design uses them often in their designs; it is easy to see why! They stye so nicely with so many prints!

Copper And Rose Gold Metal Finishes - Shop The Trend

Design InspirationSarice GutmanComment

Silver and gold finishes are commonplace in the home, but there has been a recent surge in the popularity of copper and rose gold metal finishes.  We've all seen rose gold jewelry become all the rage over the last couple years.  Copper and rose gold metals add such warmth of color and sheen to jewelry as well as to an interior aesthetic, and so it is no wonder many designers and retailers are jumping on board the trend.

These inspiration photos are self explanatory!  Copper and rose gold finishes add such character and depth to an interior space.

This kitchen with copper oven is absolutely magnificent.  The open shelving full of copper pots and pans is icing on the cake!

And how's this for an inspiration grand finale!? A copper staircase!

While that copper staircase is pee-your-pants AMAZING, copper and rose gold decor accents that are smaller in scale also give the same effect.  Pure warmth!  This traditional white kitchen with copper decor accents is PERFECTION.  Pure perfection.  The colorful floor runner, the copper decor accents, the marble back splash, the blue and white dishes. Kitchen crush for sure!! Oh and p.s. this is a wonderful example of how mixing metal finishes can totally work!

Tropical Decor - Get the Look!

Design InspirationSarice GutmanComment

I recently returned from a fabulous Hawaiian vacation and I have tropical decor on the brain!  Tropical decor invokes a feeling of tranquility that I love.  Themes of nature help bring the outdoors in, and enables a person to feel like they are on vacation 24/7!  So sit back and grab a cold drink; I'm going to bring a little tropical vacation to your computer screen!

Our trip to the Hawaiian island of Kauai was beautiful.  I couldn't get enough of the lush vegetation, the gorgeous beaches, the vibrant sunsets, and the slow pace of life.  Tropical decor incorporates themes that makes one appreciate the materials, colors, and feelings that are ubiquitous in tropic locals.

For example, this dining room shows off a stunning bamboo dining set, gorgeous natural wood floors, and tropical foliage.  Many tropical interiors incorporate the outdoors as part of the "decor." This open air dining room does it beautifully!

This tropical kitchen stands out with crisp white cabinetry, bold blue-green ocean-colored back splash tile, and large tropical leaf print gallery wall.

A tropical bedroom would guarantee a good night's sleep!  That bamboo canopy bed is amazing and I love the idea of an over sized palm inside! This tropical decor is a nod to British Colonial style (read more about it here).

What a gorgeous living room this is.  The contrast between the natural fiber rug, the neutral upholstery, and the natural wood accent tables is spot on.  I also love the punch of color from the coral lamp shades and the ocean themed gallery wall.  Again, the over sized palms totally complete the room.  Lastly, notice how the mirrored panels reflect even more natural light? Brilliant!

Here is an e-design board I created that incorporates tropical decor.  It looks so inviting!  Sources are below.

Pineapple Happy- Shop The Trend

Design Inspiration, My HomeSarice GutmanComment

Pineapples are everywhere lately!  Pineapples symbolize hospitality (read more about the fascinating history of the pineapple here), so it is no surprise that they have made such an impact on home decor.  This trend has even moved beyond home decor and is popping up all over the place on clothing and accessories.  I have no clue how long the pineapple fad will stick around, but here is roundup of some happy pineapple goodies to drool over.

Last year I fell in love with this pineapple paperweight from MACK (such a cool retailer by the way, check them out!).

Source: Shop Mack

It looks so stylish in my family room built-in bookshelf- it makes me smile when I walk by! I was lucky to get it before the pineapple trend really exploded.  It is currently out of stock, but here is similar option.  MACK's pear paperweight is still available.  (Side note: yes, we have A LOT of chess books- my husband is a nationally ranked chess enthusiast!)

Here is a cheaper option- many color options to choose from!

This petite pineapple lamp may be small in size, but it sure would make a statement as a desk lamp.

A pineapple rug would give a kitchen table a happy look. Since this rug is an indoor/outdoor rug, it would also work outside on a patio or deck.

This is genius! Why not utilize a live pineapple as a vase for a beautiful centerpiece! I could see this working great for a summer BBQ.

Also love this pineapple flatware set- this would make a great wedding gift!

The Lilly Pulitzer for Target line featured this ADORABLE pineapple serving bowl. I managed to snag one and I am gifting it to a good friend as a bridal shower gift! Unfortunately it is sold out online, but if you're lucky, you may be able to find one in-store.

Pineapples are also extremely popular on clothing and accessories! I lucked out again in snagging these Lilly Pulitzer for Target pineapple sandals.  Not gifting these though- these babies are going to get a lot of mileage from me this spring and summer! Unfortunately also sold out online- but keep in eye out in your neighborhood target.

For some reason I'm now dying for fresh cut pineapple!  Have you been inspired to jump on the pineapple train?
